Australia's 3rd Largest Economy

Western Sydney Visitor Network Project

Western Sydney Business Connection (WSBC) is facilitating a regional, industry led project aimed at driving visitation to Western Sydney through the development of a regional visitor network.

The ultimate aim of the project is to promote the region as a world class tourism destination where locals as well as international and domestic visitors can stay and play. With so many assets already in the region, and so many more in the pipeline, there is a real critical mass of activity that if supported by a coordinated strategy, will deliver huge benefits to the region and its operators.

Western Sydney already attracts almost 10 million visitors each year, contributing $2.5 billion to its economy annually. The region is seeing unprecedented infrastructure investment and population growth. This coupled with so many new world class attractions and events on the horizon such as Sydney Zoo, TropFest and the Powerhouse, the region is poised for exponential growth over the next 5 years.

Destination NSW will be announcing a Western Sydney Visitor Strategy in the New Year. This will be a supporting platform for the sector and the region. However we cannot rely on this alone. The region also needs a business led coordinated approach to promoting Western Sydney as a great destination to Stay and Play.

WSBC is playing a key role in connecting businesses across the industry to drive this much needed collaboration. Thirty Western Sydney organisations from across the industry are represented as part of the initiative with the following organisations leading the recently formed steering committee:

Australian Tourism Accommodation, Australian Turf Club, Deloitte, Greater Western Sydney Giants, Holiday Inn Parramatta, MAAS (Powerhouse Museum), Muru Mittigar, Parkroyal Parramatta, Parramatta Eels/Leagues, Penrith Panthers, Royal Agricultural Society of NSW, Sydney Zoo, Tropfest, Wet 'n' Wild and WSBC.

The benefits that flow from a visitor economy are not only direct in terms of tourism activities but also indirect via supply chain growth, capital investment, infrastructure, employment and export growth. There is huge potential for flow on benefits for our members and more broadly the businesses and people of Greater Western Sydney.

The West is ready for a robust destination management plan and a new, consolidated brand that adequately reflects its diverse tourism assets. The time has come for the industry to refocus and work together to capitalise on the momentum in the west to drive real change.
