In 2020 the NSW Government commissioned Professor Peter Shergold AC and Mr David Gonski AC to lead a review on the NSW vocational education and training (VET) sector. In March 2021, the NSW Government released the NSW VET Review Report “In the Same Sentence: Bringing Higher and Vocational Education Together”.
The establishment of the IAT was a key recommendation, to create an entirely new form of Australian tertiary institution. In support of this recommendation, two IAT pilot sites were established in Digital, located in Meadowbank, and Construction, located in Kingswood.
The IAT is being delivered by TAFE NSW, in collaboration with universities and industry. The IAT vision is to deliver fully integrated theoretical and practical employability skills, with curriculums designed with real employers and focused on the state’s emerging labour market needs.
